Hello
I am Li Liuyang, a Chinese poet and novelist. I like your novels very much. I hope more Chinese readers can read your works. So I translated one of your novels, called the hearer, and wanted to get it published in a Chinese magazine called Dianchi Lake. I hope to get your oral authorization.

I just finished reading lemon cake. I am a synesthete and I was wondering what you know about that subject? Definitely the "affliction/gift" of Rose.
Every word, letter, number has a color...I thought most of my life, that everyone had color associations like me.
Just curious where you got your inspiration for Rose and love how you fashioned a story around here tasting folks.
Do you have synesthesia ? I love talking to people about it and I know that a lot of people find it to be terribly difficult.
Thanks
Lauri
PS LOVED the Book !! Looking forward to reading more of yours ..
I enjoy your books. Thank you for taking the time to write them.
I have been reading your work since the Girl in the Flammable Skirt, and loving it. But nothing prepared me for how much the Butterfly Lampshade moved me. It's an incredible work - deep, nuanced, beautiful, difficult. You have given us all a gift, and I appreciate it so, so much.
You have the most awesome signature of all!
I am a slow reader. And yet. The Butterfly Lampshade called and pulled me along at a (relatively) rapid place. I related to the way Francie (I wondered if the name is a nod to A Tree Grows In Brooklyn) remembers most everything that happens and still wants to remember more, deeper. The phrasing was as magical as the story. As soon as I finished, before I realized what I was doing, I started reading the book again, which made sense and added more appreciation for me. Thank you for taking time from your family life and writing such a meticulous and profoundly beautiful book.
Reading Lemon Cake after the recommendation of a poet (don’t recall her name) in The Week. Fascinating writing and character. I can’t help but see the similarity of Rose’s train of thought with her heightened and perhaps distorted sense of reality similar to my brother’s, who was diagnosed schizophrenic when he was 20(over 40 years ago). Haven’t finished yet, but she just had that chair leg incident with Joseph. That and the troubling tasting power brought me back to those days when I was a teenager leaving with him.
I plan to read and enjoy more of your unique works.
Just finished reading the Bearded Girl that was part of SideShow. What a captivating story. I love the ending. Thank you. Have you ever considered making it into a short play? It would be absolutely fabulous.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for writing “The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.” Your book found me in the right place at the exact right time in my life. It felt as if I was watching my family’s life play out in the story you wrote. And as I was reading about Rose’s narrative surrounding her gift I made a choice to start on the healing journey from an eating disorder I’ve had from childhood. Thank you, Aimee, for your book.
Your writing has shown me that not all of the stories have been told.
Not everyone's creation simply falls in place into a category.
That a unique voice can rise through the loud din of uniform storytelling.
Thank you for the hope, the journeys you brought us on with you, and especially for the magic!
I just finished reading The 🦋 Lampshade. I saved the last 10 pages for a couple of days. I knew how it would end, but I still cried. Francie was OK the entire time but she had to find out for herself. And she did. Thank you for such a brilliant work. Your use of evocative language is stunning
Hello from LA! This is the best, most fun, writer's website ever. So glad to have stumbled upon it.
I hope this reaches you. I don't know if you want to know the emotional impact you have on others, so I'm sorry to selfishly write here if it is the wrong place to. I found 'The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake' in a used book shop. I like books about magic in everyday use. This book healed something in me I didn't know I needed. I don't think I could ever fully put how I feel about my brother's unsuccessful suicide attempts without writing a book myself. It is new to me to read something that so achingly explains how I feel. That I love him, that I understand, that I want him to stay around, that I get the urge to leave. That I have, a long time ago, known that I am not much different from him. I just focused my life in a slightly other direction; just to the right or left of what has led him to feel so resigned those times. And while I would be wrecked, I would never blame him or be angry at him. I don't just want him here, existing or suffering. I wish for him a here that is fulfilling and enjoyable. But I would never blame him for a decision made based on the point of view of the world being stacked against him. Never. I just love him and what him to be able to be, but with joy.
Hello!
It is 3:30 a.m. and I just read the exchange between Rose and her father in The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, “For you, he said, I brought binoculars.” and felt so moved. What a beautiful reminder that sometimes we are offered love in ways we can’t see or understand, even when it may not be perceived as enough. Wow. Thank you.
Hi. It has been quite some time!
Two weeks ago, your latest arrived and I am working my way through, word by word. Loving it as I always do. But as always turning each page in fear of the 'oh my gosh' that may be waiting!
Wouldn't you know that at noon today, on the way to buy something for lunch, I walked past the neighborhood junior high school and could hear the kids in the pool (for gym class) shouting, "Butterfly, butterfly."
Hi. My name is Ivory and I’m a seventeen-year-old kid and I’m taking a step out of my comfort zone. To cut to the chase and say that I am essentially asking for help/advice on writing (specifically emotional barriers with stories). I’m not sure if this is a bizarre guestbook message, so I will leave it at that. If I don’t hear back, then I just want to say that your work is amazing. I’m usually not one to have idols, but you inspire me to write 🙂
Hi Aimee. We went to high school together. I came across your name a few months ago while looking for anthologies of short stories. Since then, I've very much enjoyed reading and listening to and, most of all, thinking about your work.
Congratulations on your spectacular achievements!
I am a teacher and we did a magical realism unit with my 10th graders this past year. We read your story "Americca" and it sparked a great discussion. Thank you so much for this story.
I just wanted to say thanks for all of your writing! I wish more books were as wonderfully strange as yours. You’re truly one of my all-time favorite writers. Also, for the last year, I had the pleasure of being taught by one of my other favorite writers: your sister Karen! I wish you both the best.
Hello! My company, Lemur Press, researches online consumer demand for books and identifies out-of-print titles with high levels of reader interest. Our research shows that there is demand for Willful Creatures: Stories and I would like to discuss opportunities to bring this title back into print. If this information is in error or regarding an older edition, my apologies! In either case, if you have any out of print works you'd be interested in discussing, please do reach out. We work closely with authors to digitize, format, and bring their books back into print. We cover all the upfront costs and pay royalties on a quarterly basis. Perhaps you have a few minutes for a call in the next week to discuss with my team? Here is a link to our calendar to schedule a call (https://calendly.com/lemurpress-esther/30min-1).
